“Finally, someone who Two friends laughing mid conversationgets it.”

Amara, into books
Frank, also into books
Pick a subject. Or drag a sticker onto one.
Wait, how does it work?
$3 USD a month gets you a new match on the 1st. You talk on Google Meet.
“So… what is this?”

It’s a conversation club . Pay $3 a month. We find you one person who loves your subject as much as you do . You talk on Google Meet . Next month, meet someone new or keep talking.

Sounds good. Tell me more.
Three friends walking and laughing together “wait, you collect moths too?” “since I was six!” “same time next month?”

What do the chats sound like?

These are example lines we wrote to show the feel of a ChewFat chat. The faces are stock photos.

How does it work?

01

What are you into?

Pick two or three subjects. Anything from knitting to the night sky.

02

Prove it.

Tell us how long you’ve loved it and what you love about it. Nobody fails.

03

Talk, learn or teach?

Talk with someone at your level, learn from an expert, or teach a beginner.

04

See you on the 1st.

Your match arrives by email. Pick a time and hop on Google Meet. Next month, meet someone new or talk again.

Go on, prove it.

Before your first match, you show us how deep you go. It takes two minutes and nobody fails. Try it here.

Who would I meet?

What are you into?

Four topics are open now. The rest open when 20 members pick them, so picking one helps it open. Tap a photo to see what members ask each other.

Member counts here are demo numbers.

How do you want to talk?

Know a lot about something? Someone out there wants to learn it from you.

Same as me

Someone just as obsessed as me, please.

We match you with someone within one level of your Prove it score. Nobody has to explain the basics.

“Favourite opening?”
“The Sicilian. Obviously.”
“Same! Okay, let’s argue about the Najdorf.”
Two women laughing together“finally!”
Teach me

I want to learn from someone who knows.

You’re matched with a Devotee or Lifer who has offered to teach. Bring your questions. No question is too basic.

“I’ve just started birding. Where do I begin?”
“Your own backyard. Learn five birds by their song.”
“Only five?”
“For this month. Then we talk again.”
One friend showing another a chord on the guitar“ooh, show me”
Let me teach

I know a lot. Let me share it.

Become a Devotee (55 or more) in Prove it to unlock teaching. You’re matched with a Newcomer or Regular who wants to learn. Every third chat you teach, your next month is free.

“Why do my sleeves come out different lengths?”
“Hold them both up to the camera.”
“It’s… quite a difference.”
“There it is. You knit tighter when you’re tired.”
A man explaining something with a big smile on a sofa“good question!”
Every month

And next month?

Meet someone new, or keep talking with this month’s person if you both want to. Tap a month to see one member’s year.

“January: Frank. Birds. We talked for two hours.”
A woman waving on a laptop video call“hi, I’m March!”

What happens on the call?

A video call with a stranger can feel like a lot. Here is how it goes, so nothing catches you out.

  1. Minute one

You both have the same opener

Your invite has a starter question for you both. Ask it first. Nobody has to be clever.

“So what got you into it?”
  2. Camera

    Camera off is normal

Tick it in Settings. We only pair you with people who are happy either way.

  3. Minute 20

    Wrap up when you like

Forty-five minutes is a guide. After twenty, anyone can say goodbye. It’s a house rule, so nobody minds.

“This was great. I’ve got to run.”
  4. After

    Again, or someone new?

Tap Talk again. If they tap it too, you meet again next month. If not, you meet someone new.

How we keep it good company

  • After every call, you answer two quick questions. Did they listen? Did they ask about you?
  • Members who score low get a friendly note. If it keeps happening, they leave the club.
  • No-shows count too. Two and you’re out.

How we keep you safe

  • Your match sees your first name and city. Never your email or surname.
  • Only the two of you get the Meet link for your chat.
  • Report any match in two taps. A person reads it within a day.
  • A member with two reports is paused while we look. Block someone and you never meet again.

What makes a good chat?

Friends laughing over drinks at home

These are our house rules. Everyone agrees to them before their first match.

What’s the catch?

Honestly? There isn’t one. Ask us anything.

Any ads?

None. Your $3 pays for everything, so nobody is selling you.

Do you record the calls?

Never. What you say stays between the two of you.

Will you spam me?

One email a month, with your match in it. Plus a reminder before your chat.

Is there a feed?

No feed, no likes, no followers. One person, once a month.

How much?

$3
USD a month. Cancel any time.
“What do I get?”
  • A match on the 1st of every month, someone new or the same person again
  • A Prove it score for each subject you love
  • Starter questions for every chat
  • Google Meet links and calendar invites, done for you
  • Skip or pause any month, free
  • A free month whenever you need one. Just ask.
  • Teach three chats and your next month is free
“And if nobody matches me?”
“Then you don’t pay for that month.”

When’s the next round?

Matches go out on the 1st of every month. This is how long until the next lot.

    Any questions?

Tap one. We’ll answer in the chat.
